Minne
Jill - what sad news! It took me instantly back to an evening in Addis in 1982. Dark days, and the rainy season too but the combination of you both, your fortitude and the obvious love you had for the people and your life there, encouraged me and my own stumblings in the country. A wonderful man. My condolences to you all.

My contacts with Geoff Last resulted from our links with the Institute of Education, University of London, since we were both alumni of its Geography Department. I first met him in Addis Ababa where Unesco had financed a conference on the teaching of geography as a means of improving inernational undestanding. He proved a superb local organiser. It was my first visit to Africa and it remains engraved in my memory. In the years that followed we met at various conferences. He was a stimulating participant who seldom minced his words. It was a pleasure to have known him and understand the measure of his loss to his family and friends.

Geaff était un homme très instruit, secret, agréable à vivre, généreux, souriant ... Il aimait la vie. Je ne l'ai pas connu longtemps et je garderai de lui un souvenir très ému.
